The United States Marine Corps tested the usefulness of everyday street skateboards during urban combat military exercises in the late 1990's in a program called Urban Warrior '99. Their special purpose was to maneuver inside buildings in order to detect tripwires and sniper fire. This also helped the troops exercises along with the everyday training the military troops go through each and every day. If solider become very good a skateboarding, when they get home from the war and they don't have job they can try to win skateboard competitions with the skateboard knowledge they learned in the army.
Exercise
Something you might not known when you skateboard is that you are actually working out your leg muscles. When you push to move forward on a skateboard you are working the muscles in your leg, over time you will be able to push farther then someone new at skateboarding. Also you can use you board as a little exercise tool, you can put your feet on the board and push ups or use it to help you stretch your muscles out. The swing board ( a different kind of skateboard) is actually an exercise machine.
Furniture and art
Have you ever bought or received a skateboard and said, "I'm never going to ride this thing!" Well skateboards can chairs, couches, tables, book stands, night stand, pieces of art, and many more different type of contemporary art or furniture. In Japan there is a person who uses recycled skateboards to make pieces of arts such as the head of a dog, an apple, a hand, and many more things. You can also take 4 skateboards and turn the into a bench to sit down in. You can even make furniture and art out of broken skateboards.
